Spear Graduation - Dagoretti Girls

in charity •  6 years ago  (edited)

I had only slept for about three hours only when I woke up at 6 am yesterday morning to go to 'school' my heart is slowly falling in love with. The three-hour sleep was not enough to rid the gloomy effects of a long night and I was taking heat from burning stomach ulcers but I wanted nothing else more for my Friday.

A team of five of us (Cleanstart Kenya) got into a car and headed north for Dagoretti Girls Rehabilitation Centre to celebrate twenty graduands of the Spear Course. They had undertaken the attitude and behavioral three-month course from last August and it was amazing to witness their transformation.

The 'school' that holds a population of close to a hundred girls currently.

The 'sunkissed' event from a distance.

The graduating twenty from behind... Sorry but I can't share their faces here.

The rest of the girls and the visiting parents witnessing change...

Going for lunch from dining hall...

I went home around past 6 in the evening with a massive headache but I had a memorable day. It is inspiring to listen to young girls dreams for I was certainly reminded of my own. Their determination to get something from the course and apply it in their lives while living in such a negative environment challenged me in a different way.

One can do anything to better themselves regardless of where they are or whatever they are going through.

Photos are all mine... Taken with my phone :)

Thank you for coming.
