Today I found out, as many know, leopards tend to be spotted. Were you also aware that, occasionally, they also come with stripes? The first case of this was documented when in 1926 Major A Cooper spotted one in an area of Zimbabwe & unfortunately, killed it. These days, more likely, the result would be to transfer them to a reserve. Allowing them to live out their life & perhaps breeding them to see if they could duplicate the stripes. Since then, they've only been seen in the wild five times. Though, some have been born in captivity. In 2012 it was revealed that they have a recessive mutation in their transmembrane aminopeptibase Q gene causing the distinctive fur patterns.
