Beating 2100+ Opposition 2-0, Domination

in chess •  7 years ago

I played 2 games against a 2100+ player on lichess time control 10+0 minutes
I started with black and got a pretty comfortable ending, he seemed to not know how to handle the white position so I won.
Then I got white, ended up in a structure I also really like, and got a nice space advantage and converted to a winning K+P ending.

1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5

A41 Rat Defense: English Rat

3.dxe5 dxe5 4.Qxd8+ Kxd8

A very comfortable position for black, it might sound weird, but in fact white is the one having a hard time with this position.

5.e4 Be6 6.a3 c6 7.b3 Nd7 8.Bb2 f6 9.Bd3 Kc7 10.g3 Nc5

Black has a nice position here, it also seems hard for white to kick the knight away from c5, I prefer black here, perhaps g2-g3 is a slight error in this structure.

11.Bc2 a5 12.a4

This just gives black such an easy game, no worries about what happens on the queenside.

12...Rd8 13.f3 Nd3+ 14.Bxd3 Rxd3 15.Ba3
Bb4+

I liked this move a lot, I decided that a pawn on b4 would be annoying to white.

16.Bxb4 axb4 17.Nd2 Ne7 18.Rb1 Rhd8 19.Rb2 c5 20.h4 Nc6 21.Ne2 Nd4 22.Nxd4 R8xd4 23.Ke2 h5 24.Nf1 Rc3

I have no idea what white can even do in this position.

25.Ne3 Rdd3 26.Nd1 Rxb3 27.Rxb3 Rxb3 28.Ne3 Ra3 29.g4 hxg4 30.fxg4 Rxa4 31.h5 b3 32.Kd2 Bxc4 33.h6 gxh6 34.Rxh6 b2 35.Kc2 Rb4

I think this is winning for black, the pawn on b2 sets up a nice trick I used later, I can give black a check so he has to move the king out of the way then I can queen the pawn and that is a win!

36.Rh1 Be6 37.Kb1 c4 38.Rh6

Now I can give the check and queen the pawn, when the Rook is on his back rank it does not work.

38...c3 39.Rxf6 Ba2+

This is the winning maneuver.

40.Kc2 b1Q+ 41.Kxc3 Qb3+ 42.Kd2 Rd4+ 43.Ke2 Qb2+ 44.Kf3 Bb1 45.Nd5+ Rxd5

This was pretty nice just winning the piece, but more importantly eliminating his rook, then black is just winning!

46.exd5 e4+ 47.Ke3 Qxf6 48.d6+ Kxd6 49.g5 Qxg5+ 50.Kd4 Qd2+ 51.Kc4 Qd3+ 52.Kb4 Bc2 53.Ka5 Qa3+ 54.Kb6 Qa6#

Black wins by checkmate.

A13 English Opening: Agincourt Defense

2.g3 d5 3.Bg2 c6 4.b3 d4 5.d3 e5 6.Nd2 Bb4 7.a3 Bxd2+ 8.Bxd2

I still think this is a bad idea, this just shows that even 2100+ players makes bad decisions.

8...Ne7 9.Nf3 f6 10.O-O O-O 11.e3 c5 12.Nh4 Qc7 13.e4 Be6 14.f4 Nd7 15.f5 Bf7 16.Qg4 Kh8 17.b4 b6 18.b5 a5 19.a4

With the queenside closed down and white having move space, black will not have enough room to reailly use those knights effectively.

19...Qd8 20.Qh3

This is a little bit of a bluff, I semi threat to play Ng6+ but I am not certain it is a good move, so only semi-threat.

20...Kg8 21.Qg4 Kh8 22.Qh3

I decided a draw would be fine, but he did not agree

22...Qe8 23.Bh1 g5 24.fxg6

Now we get some action on the kingside, but it seems like whites pieces are better placed for the insuing action.

24...Nxg6 25.Nf5

I was very happy with this knight!

25...Be6 26.Qh6 Bxf5 27.Rxf5 Qf7 28.Raf1 Qg7 29.Bg2 Qxh6 30.Bxh6 Rfe8

I do not like the black position it seems he has some problems that are not so easy to deal with.

31.Bh3 Ngf8 32.Rh5 Kg8 33.Bf5 Kf7 34.Bd2 Ke7

I spend a little time considering whether the bishop pair or a pawn would be more valuable, it turns out that I was a little greedy (or perhaps I really liked my passed pawn!)

35.Bxh7 Nxh7 36.Rxh7+ Ke6 37.Rh6 Rh8 38.Kg2 Rxh6 39.Bxh6 Rh8 40.Bd2 Rf8 41.Rf5

This rook is pretty much dominating, from here it makes sure I can push my h-pawn and get behind it, while I also restrain his f5 break.

41...Rh8 42.h4 Nf8 43.h5 Nh7 44.g4 Rg8 45.Kg3 Ng5 46.Bxg5 Rxg5

I thought about taking the rook, but I saw no clear path forward from that, so I decided to push the pawn!

47.h6 Rg6

A little trick here, I cannot push my pawn since he can then go behind it, therefore I transfer the rook behind the pawn now.

48.Rh5 Rg8 49.h7 Rh8 50.Kh4 Kf7 51.g5

Perhaps black has a shot based on playing f5 now, but I did not get to look to deep into to before he took my pawn, and giving me a pretty nice position.

51...fxg5+ 52.Kxg5 Kg7 53.Kf5 Rf8+ 54.Kxe5 Kh8

I am not so sure about this, but he did make an almost dangerous pawn.

55.Kd5 Rf3 56.e5 Rxd3 57.e6 Re3 58.Re5

But here black seems to die.

58...Kxh7 59.e7 Rxe5+ 60.Kxe5

White wins on time. He had about a minute left on the clock when we got to this position, but he then refused to make a move.
