If I'm hosting and running this match, why do I suddenly feel like a passenger?

I only just realised the seriousness of my Queen's circumstances. For this move at least, my game is on rails.
I can't see any way I'm going to keep her, but I'm hoping she takes some company to Valhalla.

The steemit changes are certainly interesting. I'm getting plenty of upvotes, but the little eye shows only a handful of views.
Perhaps I'm being auto-upvoted by followers, or bots have started relying on these healthy payouts. Either way, I really like the changes. They make the site look much more polished

There's been some talk about spreading the reward around a little, dividing it up based on total upvotes.
I'm completely open to this, and will probably do so if I run another match.
I'll stick to the current winner-takes-all approach for this game, to remain consistent; but I would encourage those who likes the idea, to publicly commit themselves to it.
If, at the end of the match, black wins, and the player at the top of the board has previously undertaken to spread the wealth, then I'm happy to do so on his behalf.

Again, this will be all of the steem in my wallet at the time, from all sources.

Sort Order:

d7-d6, escaping check, preparing to kill queen next (all pieces are protected and queen has no where to run, guess we're going to lose a rook for her though :-).

Im good with spreading the love based on the score.

cool, me too

This is the best move, next we attack the queen with the rook. Just like Blocktrade said, his only choice is to trade a Queen with our Rook.

scratch that, bishop e7 it is.

this would allow his queen to escape, because we couldn't move to rook to g7 (bishop in current position supports it).

correct me please, it is black king on 7th rank or queen?

if it is black queen on 7th rank then we can just grab white queen with black queen :)

black queen is on 8th rank, black king is 7th rank (we're in check currently). But after we move out of check, he's got no good move left, and I don't see a way he can save his queen.

yes, So bishop move makes sense, then rook 2nd rank with check might follow. Moving out of check also works :) only I don't like King moving to much center at this early stage, but I guess we can choose that, since his knights still resting

he's got nothing deployed to threaten king with (lost bishop was his best chance to attack king there). I think he will trade queen for rook on next move.

Found one variation where we might be mated! After escape, White Knight C3, Black rook g7, White Knight B5 checkmate... Bishop move is more convincing for me for now..

c6->b4 before rook g7 negates attack from c3 followed by b5 (and his queen still can't escape). Of course, this intermediate move only needed if he does c3 move.

f8-e7 also works, and but I'd prefer to keep line open for queen to attack later

scratch that, it doesn't work, because the rook can't move from g8-g7 (loses bishop's protection). I had worked that out before, but forgot. These animating gifs are cool, but they do make analyzing the board a bit distracting, maybe you can set them to repeat like 5 times or so, then stop?

I've found that too, and usually do my pondering looking at the board.
Maybe a separate, still image at the end of the post would be best.

Not sure how you're making the animated gif, but from long ago memories of making them, it is possible to set a repetition limit (repetition count is embedded into animated gif itself). But if your current animation methodology doesn't allow for it, a still image might be simplest thing.

Might also be nice to have a closer look at the board without needing to fit my glorious noggin in the frame.

It is distracting, giving me a headache actually.less frquent is fine.

Hard to focus on the game when you're worried I'mma steal your girl ;)

Hah u wish! Steem on!

Wanna try this.

Queen has 8th rank to start attack, I think rook going 2nd rank and Queen following would be good move forward, white queen is stack on black side alone.

We've got his queen. His best possibility at this point is to trade his queen for our rook. Queen can't flee, and our next move (move rook to g7) threatens his queen with no escape (that's why he posted the animated gif about the rat caught in the trap). If it wasn't for that, your move would be the next best.

Yes, but now he is giving check I believe, we would cover it with bishop and attack either his queen or king after that. I thought of Rook moving g7 but had to double check previous moves to figure out what was on 7th rank Queen or King, King made sense otherwise it would be plan sacrifice of Queen ;)

I'm on holiday so away from my board to suggest a move (been playing with lego instead), but as the current third place holder, I'm also fine with spreading the winning love around.

I was going to be cheeky and plug a link to my post on my lego adventures here, but I don't think I can on the eSteem mobile app. If anyone is interested, check out my blog.

I'm not precious about it, feel free if you can.

Ive switched to Chrome mobile app. Here's what I'm up to when not looking at Chess moves: https://steemit.com/lego/@brendio/epic-aussie-lego-adventure-sydney-opera-house-part-1-of-4-2016124t03337545z

You're on the list. Enjoy your trip :)
