For good parents, the problems with the child abduction trade and child molesters are very worrying. So, if you're worried about sexual predators in your community, I want to share some resources with you. As much as I’d like this to be completely comprehensive, there are just too many apps, some of which are only on Android or Apple, and there are many other types of apps out there that can be used to help protect your family, such as the listed OffenderWatch and Life360 apps.
Who Are They?
In this article, I often refer to them as "perps," meaning perpetrators. Please note that if a criminal qualifies, they will be listed in the sexual predator database. Apparently, this means they committed sexual crimes more than once, or it was serious enough. Do you know if your babysitter, neighbor, friend, family member, doctor, lawyer, clergy member, or other people with private access to your kids (or you!) are sexual predators? Please keep in mind that many cases of sexual assault, especially on minors, are done by known, trusted people, even professionals!
How Do Pedophiles and Sex Traffickers Get Their Victims?
There are two primary ways: abducting and grooming. I think everyone understands the former, so I'll provide these resources about the manipulative techniques these criminals use, and who they target:

Sexual predator: A person of any age who repeatedly engages in or helps (aids and abets) others engage in illegal sexual behavior, including rape, forced sex for work/money, molestation, bestiality, child pornography, infantophilia (sexual obsessions/abuse of babies and toddlers), pedophilia (...of children), hebephilia (...of pre- and young teens), and/or ephebophilia (...of older teens). A sexual predator isn't necessarily a child molester. Some predators are extremely dangerous, including abductors, psychopaths and serial killers. Recent stories about such people include Jeffrey Epstein and his assistants, Ghislaine Maxwell among others, who targeted teenage girls.
Sexual Offender Profiles
While there are usually more white males, you’ll also find people of other nationalities and races, including females. Sexual offenders may go after males and/or females, adults and or kids and while some may use weapons, the majority prefer to use their bodies (hands, feet, teeth, etc.). Most, if not all of these people are mentally ill in at least one way (depression, psychopathy, sociopathy, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, etc.) and, for some, their sexual perversions may somehow bring them relief from what ails them. Here’s my view on the various types.
- Hunter: Some perps hunt for prey in isolated, quiet areas, often at times of day when there are likely to be no witnesses, and strike suddenly and violently. They may have a preference for who they attack, and are often quiet and socially inept, causing them to be forgettable or mistaken as good, quiet neighbors. Some hunters are only interested in a quick execution, like David “Son of Sam” Berkowitz and Thomas Dillon. Other extreme cases can be serial rapists and killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer. I suspect that John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy were hunters, too, although they sometimes stalked or abused their position. Bundy was a porn addict, too, and his psychopathic personality was fueled by his porn addiction.
- Stalker: Physical stalkers choose particular people to target, and then learn everything they can about the person, including invading their home, finding where they like to go, school and work, hobbies, favorites, vulnerabilities, and so on. They may or may not use the Internet, social media and apps to learn more about their victims, but enjoy the thrill of physically being there – even hiding in the person’s home and staying there while the victim is there in order to watch. They break down into impatient, short-term stalkers who fixate on someone and then strike in a moment of vulnerability, and patient, methodical, long-term stalkers, who watch a person for a long time before making any moves. Some long-term stalkers fixate on famous people, but others focus on ex-partners/spouses, co-workers or strangers who fit a profile. Extreme cases can be one-time or serial rapists and killers, such as Derrick Todd Lee and Dawnette Knight.
- Persister: You could say that long-term stalkers fit into this category, too, since they are patient. I’ve separated them because they often operate online, don’t usually kill because they want long-term victims, and share their victims with other pedophiles. Others work online, “grooming” their victims over hours, days, weeks, months or even years by befriending them, complimenting them and gaining their trust, showering them with gifts and slowly destroying their understanding of acceptable behavior before they seduce them. These perps will sometimes share their victims’ photos, videos and even sexual activities with other perps. You can see many of them on shows like Dateline NBC’s “To Catch a Predator,” on which some have been caught more than once.
- Power Abuser: These people have positions of power, trust and authority, and take advantage of that in order to gain access to their victims and groom or coerce them into sex, like Bill Clinton and Jeff Epstein, although they may be killers. Although serial killers like Bundy and Gacy were publicly and politically active, they weren’t necessarily power abusers, although Gacy sometimes used his Jaycees connection to secure sexual victims.
- Trapper: These perps set up conditions to try and catch people based on specific criteria, rather than hunting them down. Herman Webster Mudgett aka Dr. Henry Howard Holmes was one who was active in the late 1800s, and created an entire hotel of horror in which he murdered visitors and disposed of their remains. These are almost always serial killers and psychopaths.
Some of the victims end up becoming predators, too, because the behavior seemed so normal and even enjoyable, and continue the degradation of our kids. Most predators were probably sexually abused. Killers were often abused as babies and/or kids, often by family but also sometimes by people in their community.
The night before Bundy was executed, he told Dr. James Dobson about his addiction to porn, including the following: “Bundy added, "I've lived in prison a long time now. I've met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence just like me. And without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography. Without question, without exception, deeply influenced and consumed by addiction to pornography." This is not to say that porn turned him into a monster – rather, it reflects its influence on psychopathy’s descent into horrible acts. Many other things can also lead a mentally disturbed person to become a killer, as long as it allows for an increasing obsession and higher levels of “thrill,” including drugs, reckless racing and crime.
Years ago, a law enforcement agent was invited on to Oprah to talk about pedophiles and how NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association) is not only secretly used by members to get together and talk about – even have sex with – kids, but that members of this organization are from all walks of society, and include people who have frequent, even private, contact with kids, such as guardian ad litem, pediatricians, therapists, bus drivers, clergy, teachers, coaches and other professionals you wouldn’t suspect.
Jeffrey either committed suicide or was assassinated in jail (because he was friends with many, many rich, powerful and famous people, including the Prince Andrew, the Clintons and Trump). They qualify as power-abusing, grooming stalkers who sometimes trapped their underage female victims after luring them somewhere overseas, engaging in forced imprisonment in remote mansions from which the girls had little to no chance to escape, and withholding their passports while forcing them into sex, until they let them go. Allegations state that they had many very wealthy and powerful people joining their pedophilic sex parties, and Prince Andrew was named by one victim.
Pedophilia Symbols
I came across this WikiLeaks document regarding symbols used by pedophiles to indicate their sexual preferences, but I was NOT able to find any credible source online, including on fbi.gov, to corroborate its veracity. The 301 (Maryland) phone number listed for the FBI's Cyber Crime division is not listed on the FBI's field office website, and the office that covers both MD and DE is in Baltimore (410 area code). Numlookup.com showed that the owner is: "UNTD SAINT GOVT". The mis-spelling makes me doubtful, plus when I looked up regional offices, the owner is listed as: "US GOVERNMENT" and "US GOVT FED BU". Even Snopes had nothing conclusive on it. Thus, I doubt this document is legitimate.

Following are free and paid resources you can use to find out about sexual predators in your area. Some also have the ability to show you perps in other places. Unfortunately, not all sex offenders will be listed because they aren’t known to be serial offenders or their crime(s) isn’t severe enough to be registered, plus the ones who haven’t been caught and convicted.
