Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.

Here is the difination of parenting as given by wikipedia:

"Parenting or child rearing is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood."

The decisive fact that can be derived from the difination is that parenting is a 'process'. This means that it should be done over a period. The period in question stretches from infancy to adulthood.

A very common phrase nowadays is, 'my child has defeated me', or 'I wonder where my child got these behaviors?'

Where The Child Gets Some Traits

A child normally imitates the parents, acquintances and peers. If you want your child to be good then it has to start with you. Watch as your child plays the imitating game. From the actions and words they use portrays what they have seen and heard.

Simple Methods That Can Make You Cope With Parenting.

. Role Model
Parents should act as their children's role models as soon as a child is conceived. A child in the womb should hear love words. Quarreling and fighting should not be in the family.

. Both Parents
A child needs the parenting of both parents. Each parent happens to have a role to play in child parenting. Absent parents in the family may sent wrong messages to the child.

Never leave your child in the hands of maid servants. Some of them have weird behavior which may affect your child's growth.

Do not transfer parenting to anybody else even teachers.

. Be firm and always friendly to the child.
A child needs a parent who understands them. Understanding the child makes it possible to create trust in them. Be a friend rather than a dictator.

Live your word where your child is concerned. Always keep your promises. Remember that if you always do what you say, the child will always respect you.

. Disciplining your child is in your hands.
Discipline is the core of good behavior in children. One should use punishment and reward to achieve good results.

. Never deny your child to play.
Children have a right to play. Play goes a long way in building the personality of a child.

Parents should ensure they vet the peers that their children have. However this should be done with great courtesy.

Your child's playthings and smartphones should be controlled too. However children should be counselled so that they see the need for such. Censoring of sites they get into is also necessary.

Involving children in all decisions that affect them in the family is also necessary. Guide the conversation to look as if they are the ones making the decision.

Managing children in their teens is also important. Sexuality is a topic that should be introduced bit by bit from age four. The changes that come with adolescence should have been taught to them longbbefore they appear. Teenage children should be handled with care. Guidance should be done closely.

With many households with single parents, I would advice the parents should seek a trustworthy person of the opposite sex to be guardians.

You are right. But children nowadays lacks respect to the elderlies. That's a sad thing. some doesn't respect their parents.

You are right there. The children we have are teacher, maid and peer creations. Then technology finishes it up. What do you expect? Chaotic individuals. Parents should go back and take their respective places of parenting. As much as work does not give them the opportunity, they should know we work to leave an inheritance to our children. How will you feel if you get the inheritance and lose the heir? @originalworks

Sadly, some parents are negligent. Missing those times when parents are hands on.

I feel you.

I appreciate @ladyjah

Thank you for sharing my friend.

I feel you my friend @rakitera

As a parent you have to watch what words you use. Instill in your children right from wrong and some times peer pressure will lead your child astray.

@stoutdee Do you believe that charity begins at home? If there is no charity at home then the world is in chaos. Turn on the news and you will know what I mean. We sit on a time bomb that will explode and kill us all. That time bomb is our children. Something ought to be done by us parents

This is informative. Can't say less...

There you are my friend.

Great piece on parenting. I like the statement "Do not transfer parenting to anybody else even teachers". Often parents don't feel it is their responsibility to teach or parent their children. I think you should always take an active role. You should have the most invested as they are your children.

I will appreciate the honor of adding the link. Actually parents should take a leading role in the upbringing of their children. Our children are wayward because we have left them in other hands.

good points and well informed for new parents and old

I have four siblings and always guiding them in every move they make. I, as their eldest sister has the right to teach them the right thing to do.
