Legend has it that St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, drove out all the snakes in Ireland chasing them into the sea while he was on a 40-day fast. This is the reason that up to this date, there are no snakes in Ireland.
Good old St. Patrick is Ireland's patron saint and what a sad day for his beloved Ireland. I can imagine him looking down from heaven with head bowed and weeping. Ireland has fallen and it is an ominous thought to wonder who will be next.
We cannot let our guard down. We must fight the devil who goes about the streets like a roaring lion ready to devour us.
Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
Abortion is an evil and the serpent's deadly coils has wrapped around the minds and hearts of those who are indifferent and consenting to this evil. If only we can recognize the uniqueness and beauty of every person made in the image and likeness of God. The sacredness of life, our total belonging to the God who created us, then these lives will be spared.
This picture caught my attention because snakes has always been fascinating creatures. This one is especially eye catching because of its vivid color and malevolent eye. But the message is even more riveting I must say. It's sending a message that evil is very much alive and working ferociously for the downfall of many and many will fall. But then many will also rise and face this danger do battle and despite the wounds continue to make a stand for God and for what is right. Let us join their ranks and do battle. We cannot lose because the Mother of God, our battle queen, is our help and protector. St. Joan of Arc was not faint-hearted and she was victorious because she dared. Let us imitate her resolve and be victorious too.
(Note: The legend of St. Patrick driving out the snakes is just what it is. A legend. Although there are really no snakes in Ireland, there is a scientific explanation for this. Check the link here to know more about this legend and why there are no snakes in Ireland.)
