The apostle John presents us the doctrine of Jesus as the doctrine of love and that those who remain in love remain in God: "Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teachings of Christ does not have God", 2 John 9.
John in his writings speaks of adult love, the love projected towards all of God's work, this love is a requirement, our efforts are not enough but we need God's mercy to fulfill this good love: "And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love." 2 John 6
It is important to understand where this love comes from, the love of Jesus comes from, it is a consequence of the word of God, because to love something you have to know it first and the word of God is the knowledge of the correct means to live.
This is why the Gospel of John begins by speaking about the word and not of love: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.", John 1:1-2. To explain it in another way because God is wise God loves with compassion, with goodness: "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.", Luke 11:28.
The apostle clarifies that those who deviate from the word of Jesus cannot find God, that is, they cannot inherit the kingdom of God: "I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist", 2 John 7
This teaching of John is a reminder that following Jesus and entering the Kingdom of God implies rejecting all heresies (teachings of error) that take us away from the path of mercy, that lead us away from the path of righteousness. Living the spiritual gifts of God according to the bible, living according to the spirit is the only way to fulfill the commandment of love: "Love your neighbor as yourself", Mark 12:31.
