Compassion?# today's morning Devotion Luke 10:29-37

Meaning of compassion?
A strong feeling of sympathy for someone who is suffering and a desire to help him/her.

What is the essence of having compassion for others?

In Philippians 2:1-8
"Your life in Christ makes you strong, and his love comforts you, you have fellowship with the spirit and you have kindness and compassion for one another.

Vs 2. I urge you, then, to make me completely happy by having the dame thoughts, sharing the same love, and being one in soul and mind.

Vs3
Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble towards one another, always considering others better than yourselves.

Vs4
And look out for one another's interest, not just for your own.

Vs5
The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had.

Vs6
He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God.
Vs7
Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant.
He became like a human being and appeared in human likeness.

Vs8
He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death- his death on the cross.

According to these verse, Paul is admonishing us to put on the Christ like type of christains
Looking at the story in Luke 10:29-34, the Samarittan humbled himselff for the man. He didn't liked his own interest, he didn't uplift himself before the man.
He humbled himself and gave a helping hand to the dying man.

I quite remember at home, i saw 1 drunkard man lying helpless, i didn't give a helping hand because i thought the guy was foolish, a bad gut..i went ahead to call my sister to come and see him. By the time i returned, he was not there, i don't know who came for him.

I later realized i should have at least approached the man and asked him what was wrong.

I had a wrong perception about him, which couldn't allow me to give that help.
Sometimes , what we think about people will prevents us from helping, but when we hear them out, we realize they need us more than anything.

Brethren, how often do we become compassionate for others?
Sometimes we even laugh at them. Called them all sorts of names, ignored them.
Jesus Christ had a compassionate heart for us, this is the many reasons he left his royal Throne to die a shameful death for us.

In Mattew 5:44-48
It tells us not to fight for our own interest but others, we must pray for our enemies too.
Abraham exhibited this kind of behaviour.
He pleaded for the people of Sodom and Gommorah.

This morning we Thank God for the life given unto us once again.
As we meditate on this, i pray to God He gives you a compassionate heart.
This does not comes very easy.
Is a fruit of the spirit and is only giveth by the father in Heaven.

Lets all start showing kindness towards each other and our world would be a better place to live in.
