I will wash my hands in innocency; so will I compass thine altar, O Lord: that I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell all thy wondrous works. Psalm 26:6-7
People generally can tell when someone is really grateful to them and when they are not. Whether it is the way they show appreciation or the number of times they do so or maybe just the tone of their voice when saying, 'Thank you,' there is just an attitude that accompanies true thanksgiving.
In our verse for today, the psalmist in giving God thanks refuses to do so ordinarily but insists on going to the altar of God and thanking Him aloud; not forgetting telling of his wondrous works. That's the attitude of thanksgiving. When someone is immensely grateful to another person, seldom would they just send a thank you message. Most often they would want to thank that individual in person. They might tell others of the good that individual has done or may even offer a gift in appreciation. That is how we ought to show our appreciation especially to God for all the good things he has done for us. Yes we can say a 'Thank you' in our hearts and God would hear but lets go beyond to really show him our appreciation like the psalmist did. He deserves it.
