And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome had brought sweet spices that they might come and anoint him...and they said amongst themselves who shall roll away the stone from the door of the sepulchre. Mark 16:1-3
In Mark 16, Mary Magadalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome were headed to Jesus' tomb to anoint his body with sweet spices. They however had one major obstacle which was the stone covering the tomb. In the Bible spices usually represent worship (Mark 14:3).
And so in this story, the three women represent the believer who desperately wishes to serve God but finds there is some obstacle constantly standing in his way; an obstacle that appears beyond his strength. For some it may be a fear or an addiction that hinders them. Today the message for us is to encourage us not to give up. These three hebrew women did not retreat despite the fact that they did not have the strength to roll that stone and neither should we. Like them we should keep heading towards God never giving up on him or ourselves. In the end, we would find that it shall not be by our strength that we overcome that obstacle but by the strength of God (Zechariah 4:6).
LIFE APPLICATION
Don't give up on following God just because something stands in your way.
PRAYER
I declare that no obstacle shall keep me from serving my God.
