Some things to ponder on this wonderful day...
Heed the Sound of the Shofar!
Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet (shofar in Hebrew) in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD is coming, for it is near at hand;
Amazingly another year has passed and tonight begins the feast of Yom Turah -- or Rosh Ha Shannah -- the Feast of Trumpets.
At the end of summer, Israel is commanded to blow the shofar -- the ram’s horn, all day long. The sound of the shofar is a sound of alarm -- it tells the people to get ready because The King is on His Way. It marks in the calendar that the summer harvest is over and the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) is near and it is time to stand before God.
The Feast of Trumpets is amazingly prophetic. Right now, we are in the midst of the great harvest and the next major event is the sound of the trumpet -- just before the Great Day of YHWH, God Our Father. Within the Feast of Trumpets contains a personal message for us all. It’s God’s wake up call: We don’t have forever! We only walk through this life once -- and as quickly as steam rises from hot water and quickly disappears, so it is with our lives. Soon it will be passed and we will stand before our Maker. If we are going to do great things for Him -- now is the time! If we need to repent for anything -- now is the time. The Lord commands us to arise and shine and let our light shine throughout the world! The shofar is sounding, the summer harvest is nearing completion, and the day of the Lord is near.
Become God’s Shofar, Our Father's Trumpet! Sound His Warning of judgment and radiate His Love that He’s given us through Jesus, that those around you will be able to stand pure before God!
The Feast of Trumpets
“In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation” (v. 24).
- Leviticus 23:23–25
Weekly Sabbath observance (Ex. 20:8–11), is part of covenant life, serving to remind us of our special status as the people of The One True God. The call to remember and praise Our Father and Savior for His Greatness is one of the reasons for the Feast of Trumpets outlined in Leviticus 23:23–25and Numbers 29:1–6.
Since the Feast of Trumpets marks the beginning of the civil calendar for His people Israel, all of Israel eventually came to refer to the holiday as Rosh Hashanah, which in the Hebrew literally means “head of the year” or New Year’s Day. This day began the seventh month of the religious calendar (Tishri), a month in which the solemn Day of Atonement and the festive Feast of Booths (AKA Feast of Tabernacles) are also celebrated (Lev. 23:23–44). In addition to a day of rest and special food offerings (Num. 29:1–6), all that Scripture prescribes for the Feast of Trumpets is a “blast of trumpets” (Lev. 23:23–25). While trumpets were blown on other occasions, the Feast of Trumpets is special, as you will read.
What was the purpose of the trumpet soundings? One answer is that the trumpet blast is a call for our people to assemble to hear the voice of God just as it was at the foot of Mt. Sinai. (Ex. 19:13). Given that the feast is always celebrated it would seem that every Feast of Trumpets is a rehearsal (The Hebrew translation of "feasts" actually means rehearsals!!!) for when The Most High might reveal Himself again, especially to consummate the salvation of His people (Isa. 27). Seven is the number of completeness in Scripture. The Feast of Trumpets is held in the seventh month of the year.
Silver trumpets and the shofar (ram’s horn) are still blown every year at the Feast of Trumpets, and His people Israel also read Genesis 22 on this day. Each of these acts helps us to see God’s Mercy, Warning, and Love (among many other things) in substituting a ram for Isaac and to anticipate the end of days when a Greater Lamb would be slain on our behalf, and then triumphantly return as Our King, The Lion of The Tribe of Judah, Faithful and True.
As we see, Israel, we, are waiting for the Feast of Trumpets to be fulfilled in its entirety. Christ the Lamb of God has come and now we wait on our King and Savior to return.
Since we are now in the last days, the call to spread the good news of salvation is more urgent than ever, so let us preach the gospel to friends and family before the final Trumpet sounds.
May God Bless You And Keep You
