scripture reference: john 15;1-8
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

abiding in God is fundamental part of the christian life, christianity is incomplete without abiding. john 1;4 says just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own without the vine so can a christian cannot bear fruit without abiding in the lord. christianity is not actually a religion as many of us as been made to believe, Christianity is all about fellowship with the father. Fellowshipping with the father is a basic aspect of the christian fate, it would help condition your spirit to receive from God, it would make us fruitful and productive in our spiritual life and even in our social life, when we abide in the lord whatsoever we ask of him he would deliver to us. we cannot actually be an effective soul winner without abiding in God. we abide in God by staying connected to God's word. The point at which the believer meets with God first hand is in his word, in john 1:1 the bible says in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God, therefore the word of God is God himself. You cannot actually separate a man from his word, therefore when you ponder on God's word you are actually abiding in him.
we also abide in God when we pray, prayer is not all about asking as most of us thinks, when we come to the place of prayer it is actually a medium to have a quiet moment with the holy spirit, prayer is actually a platform to communicate and converse with the father just as you discuss with your earthly father.
