Trying To Do Right - Growing Up An Addict Volume 37

in christian-trail •  7 years ago  (edited)

After being released from jail for the umpteenth time I swore I was going to do things different, and believe it or not, I actually did for a while.

In the long run, I still was not ready to give up my old life, but for a while, I would do O.K.

Probation.

Being on probation or parole for me was always very hard to do. Not because I had an issue with authority but because I just couldn't stay clean and sober which resulted in dirty urine drops. I found a way around that this time.

My girls dad put me up on a secret that a Cop friend of his told him to beat urine drops. Since I could not seem to go more than a couple of days without smoking weed, it was not long before I was able to try this out, and sure enough it worked. I am not going to detail how it is done but I will say it was very hard on my body. I would often vomit and urinate blood after using this process to beat my drop, but I didn't care, I was not going to jail and I could still smoke weed!

I found out soon enough that it worked for cocaine too. Things were not looking good for me.

Working...sorta...

During this time of life I kept a job...more or less. I would work somewhere for about 90 days, then get mad that I was not running the place yet and would quit. I just couldn't understand why they could not see my inherent leadership ability and management skills displayed as I washed dishes!

I was always good at finding work so I was never out of work for long. This does not mean I was responsible in any way. When I did get paid I would spend it all on myself drinking or getting high. My girl got welfare and food stamps and since we were living with my mom we didn't really have bills.

What happened to going to Church?

I did actually go to Church....once. I just couldn't seem to commit to doing the right thing when I was free. When I was locked up I seemed to be able to be good, but free? Not so much...

Jesus was not done with me yet though. Seems he was going to get my attention one way or another, even if it took 20 years, which it pretty much did.

I would soon be going back to jail, again.
