Verse of the day 18

in christianity •  7 years ago

In the Greek Orthodox liturgy, February 2 is the traditional day in which Jesus purified the temple in Jerusalem. You can read about it in Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, or John 2. Jesus is furious when he sees the temple of God polluted by greed, and he proceeds to overturn the tables of the money changers and drive them out with a makeshift whip. This is a picture of the ferocity and zeal with which Christ cleanses us, as his temples, from the corruptions and distractions in our hearts.

One of my favorite authors is Brennan Manning. One of his works is titled the "The Furious Longing of God." I read your post and almost instantly began reflecting back upon how fiercely God clings to us and longs for us... it is God who is faithful even when we are really good at being unfaithful. Thanks be to God! Peace @genxrev

well now I have something to look up too... thanks! - and by the way, at the risk of sounding schmaltzy and all, I appreciate your willingness to interact with me over these first few days of my journey into Steemit-land. I've enjoyed your reflections, but perhaps even more so I've been enjoying the exchange. so thanks
