Proverbs 11:24 (KJV)
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
There is, by implication a certain withholding that is meet or appropriate. The Bible does not teach us to scatter indiscriminately or without some forethought.
The word “meet” comes from a combination of ancient Hebrew words meaning something like “blood continues”. It is the concept of what is necessary to preserve and further the kind. Other meanings are:
What belongs to someone
A set amount
A part of
That tells me that what we give is:
Part of what we have
A set or budgeted amount
Appropriate without sacrificing the family’s needs
