The Gospel of Matthew
Chapter 6
- Remember that the works of your righteousness do not make them to men to be seen by them; otherwise you will not have to pay from your Father in Heaven.
- So when you do mercy, do not make a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues and streets to be glorified by men; verily I say unto you, They have taken their payment.
But thou, when thou doest mercy, let thy left not know what thy right hand does, - As thy mercy shall be hidden, and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee.
- And when ye pray, be ye not as the hypocrites whom thou likest, by the synagogues, and by the corners of the streets, standing up, praying, that they may appear unto men; verily I say unto you, They have taken their payment.
- But when you pray, go into your chamber and, shutting the door, pray to your Father, who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
- When you pray, do not say much to the Gentiles, that they believe that in their many talk they will be heard.
- So do not be like them, that your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
- So then do you pray: Our Father, Who art in heaven, sanctify Your name;
- Your kingdom comes; do your will, as in heaven and on earth.
- Our bread to be delivered to us today;
- And forgive us our errors, as we forgive our sinners;
- And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. That Yours is the kingdom and power and glory for ever. Amen!
- For to forgive men their errors, forgive Your heavenly Father;
- But if you do not forgive men for their mistakes, your Father will not forgive your mistakes.
- When you fast, do not be sad as hypocrites; that they smile their faces to show people that they fast. Truly I say to you, they have taken their payment.
- But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
- Thou shalt not show thyself to men that thou fast, but to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father, who seeth in secret, he will reward thee.
- Do not gather treasures on the earth, where the moth and the rust ruin them and where the fury digs and steals them.
- But gather treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust breaks them, where the burying does not dig and steal them.
- For where is thy treasure, there shall be thy heart also.
- The light of the body is the eye; for your eye will be clean, your whole body will be enlightened.
- And if your eye be evil, all your body shall be darkened. So if the light that is in you is dark, but the darkness the more!
- No one can serve two gentlemen, for one or another will hate him, and the other will love him, or one will stick and the other will despise; you can not serve God and Mammon.
- Therefore I say to you, Do not take care of your soul, what you shall eat, nor of your body what you shall clothe; are not soul more than food and body than clothing?
- Look at the birds of the heavens, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather in the sacrifices, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you far above them?
- And who among you, cared for, may add to his stature an elbow?
- And why do you care for your clothing? Take heed to the lilies of the field as they grow: they do not bruise or torch.
- And I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory did not put on one of these.
- And if the grass of the field, which is tomorrow, is thrown into the furnace, God so clothes it, not much more to you, less of the faithful?
- Do not take care, therefore, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or what shall we clothe?
- For after all these things the nations are endeavoring; only your heavenly Father knows you need them.
- First seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
- Do not take care of tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of his own. It is the day of her wickedness.
A really nice gospel to read accompanied by a great picture too :). Thank you for sharing.
