"FOR NONE OF US LIVES TO HIMSELF, And NO ONE DIES TO HIMSELF."
Romans 14:7 (NKJV).
Comment: This passage is the core of the consecration of a believer's life—the Christian living. When a believer gets to the point that he or she consciously realizes that they live for Christ, to please Him, and not for the self, and if they died, they died for Him; such a believer is considered a mature person, and someone who walked in the Spirit. Such is no longer controlled by the flesh, and no longer wavering or being tossed about by the opinions of men or people (Ephesians 4:14,15).
a. When you lived for God, you care not of what people say, but what God says: "NOW DO YOU THINK I AM TRYING TO MAKE PEOPLE ACCEPT ME [Paul]? NO, GOD IS THE ONE I AM TRYING TO PLEASE. AM I TRYING TO PLEASE PEOPLE? IF I WANTED TO PLEASE PEOPLE, I WOULD NOT BE A SERVANT OF CHRIST" (Galatians 1:10 Easy-to-Read Version).
b. When you live for God, you are doggedly committed to whatever you are doing for Him without being sentimental, or thinking of whatever other people are saying (1 Corinthians 9:16; 2 Corinthians 12:10; Philippians 3:7,8). Every believer should grow beyond sentimentalism in whatever he or she is doing, and their relationship with God.
The only One Whom a believer should always strive to please is God. You should always guide against God's displeasure or frowning at you. What I did fear most is God's displeasure with me. The only One Who should not leave you, as a believer in Christ Jesus, is God: “DON'T BE AFRAID OF PEOPLE. THEY CAN KILL THE BODY, BUT THEY CANNOT KILL THE SOUL. THE ONLY ONE YOU SHOULD FEAR IS GOD, THE ONE WHO CAN SEND THE BODY AND THE SOUL TO BE DESTROYED IN HELL" (Matthew 10:28 Easy-to-Read Version). If you are forsaken by God, that would be the end. Thus, you should stop sentimentally striving to please Men or humans. Pleasing God should be your ultimate goal and desire. Peace.
