This Article is looking to give a brief overview about the Chromia Alpha Test, for those who area already somewhat familiar with Chromia (check chromia dot com for more basic information ).

Chromia Alpha Test Forum (example Dapp on Testnet)
What’s there to check/test so far? The first part accessible and usable to all Alpha testers is a social forum / discussion board. Here’s a screenshot to give you an impression:

The Chromia Alpha Test Forum — an example Application (dapp) running on Chromia.

The one-time signup process is pretty much the only part where it is noticeable that it is a dapp. A 15 word seed needs to be secured. Unlike many other instances there is no need to type it again, but rather click on the words in the right order. Pretty clean UI/UX and simple process that does not take much longer then the usual signups with email confirmation etc.

After that, while staying logged in, there is absolutely no difference noticeable between any other forum and this dapp in terms of performance. Sure, some features are not there yet, there are details to be improved like the search function being case sensitive etc. But it is pretty much an example dapp, quickly cobbled together by an external team to my knowledge, so that is to be expected. A nice addition is the ability to tip other users quickly and easily, but all in all it feels pretty ‘normal.

The Chromia Wallet

The second part on which Feedback is collected currently by the Alpha Tester group is the Chromia Wallet. A clean and simple webwallet, with similar setup (or shared keys) as described for the forum. It is pretty straight forward. Send and receive CHR — the unusual part may be the Linked Apps. The Transfer feature looks like it will allow sending Mainnet (or in this case Testnet) CHR to a specific Application running on it. So far there is no Block explorer implemented.

How has it been built?

Another Area where Chromia has more similarities with ‘normal’ application is developing for it. For a better idea have a look at the ‘Chromia MeetUp Presentation by Mikael Koniakowski’ on Youtube.

Especially if you have some previous C/SQL Experience, you will feel right at home glancing over it. I am not an active developer by any means, but I did learn C++ and SQL a decade ago. My impression here is that the learning curve for any experienced dev looking into RELL will be super fast, especially compared to something like solidity.

That all being said — I do not have the information about performance, on how many nodes/providers it is being run etc. I don’t expect to be disappointed, given the technical experience of the team behind chromia. Would still love to provide more information as a solid base for When more technical background information is available I’ll add it or write a sequel article.
