It is still not known when former attorney-general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be brought in for questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations Assistant Commissioner of Police Surend Sami reiterated yesterday that a special task force from the Criminal Investigations Department was handling Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s case which works under the direction of the director CID.

“I issued the statement yesterday (Friday). So I think that suffices for the time being,” ACP Sami said.

When asked when Mr Sayed-Khaiyum will be brought in for questioning, he could not divulge any information.

“No, leave it to the statement that I issued yesterday.

“I think that clarifies everything,” ACP Sami said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum arrived in the country from Australia on Thursday evening (January 19).

The Fiji Police Force had issued a watch alert for him when he left the country last month.

Minister for Rural Maritime Development and Disaster Management and general secretary for the People’s Alliance, Sakiasi Ditoka had filed a complaint against Mr Sayed-Khaiyum on December 22 (2022) for allegedly inciting racial hatred and violence in view of his public statements during a press conference in Suva.
