The Favourite - CinemaBun Film Suggestion

Really good!!

I don't think I can be considered a History buff, but I do enjoy it very much. And as a result, I tend to like movies set in HIstorical times.

This film is one to see, even if you don't particularly care about historic times/ movies.

It is superbly executed. The narrative works/ has so many levels, it's crazy. Deep, social/ political commentary in a deeply character rooted movie...

I had heard an interview with a director where he says that the topic/ portray of power was relevant when they started working on the film (10 years ago) but that now it became even more relevant. This is worth to note because the film deals with three women who had an immense amount of power... three women who influenced the lives of an enormous amount of other people... centuries ago...

The look of the film is also on point. I believe they shot it in film. Beautiful close-ups, beautiful shots.

The film language is also "different" from what is usually done in period films like this one. It shows command, confidence, and mastery of the craft. (And I'm not talking about the fisheye shots)

The characters, in a lot of moments, behave as one would nowadays. Again not what we usually get in centuries-old period pieces. It even has a bit of surrealism. Like the dances and so on...

Great music and great performances.

It just was terrific sitting down in a dark room with strangers and watch such a great film, with all these levels of meaning, execution being projected. Plus it was shot on film.

Cinema is alive and well. Quality and experiences, meter long moving paintings and strong interesting narrative, is here.

As always, thank you for reading.
