While I'm not into high-speed chases, I did enjoy Top Gun. But I'm not into cars, and I got quickly bored by Days of Thunder.
Tom Cruise (Cole Trickle) is recruited to be a NASCAR driver even though he's from California (not a Yankee!). Even though his performance is decent, there's an aggressive driver always on his tail who "rubs" him the wrong way.
According to the movie's Wikipedia entry, critics said the movie lacked originality. I believe it. Because unless you love races - especially NASCAR - you won't find much interest in it. There is hardly any plot or character development, and the "red neckness" is very obvious. And being a relatively old movie, the treatment (!!) Nicole Kidman's character receives is quite outdate - plus she falls for Cole despite his harrassing introduction.
In short, you won't miss out much with this movie. It's just car racing without much else, and women are basically objects.
