Converting a Car into Computer Mouse: There is no shortage of people in the world who are known for their weird experiment. William Osman and Simone Giertz are among of those people. They have converted Simone’s 30 years old tiny electric citicar into a computer mouse. Isn’t a strange and weird experiment? So let’s know how they converting a car in to a computer mouse.
William and Simone started by replacing the lens of an optical mouse with lens of a basic security (CCTV) camera and then it mounted on the front bumper of the car and surprisingly it worked. But here was a problem. Mouse cursor can move up or down on the screen when car move to forward or backward, the problem was, to move the cursor left or right sideways on the computer screen we have to move the computer mouse left to right sideways but we can’t move the car like a computer mouse, it takes turn in arc shape. The mouse cursor on the screen moves vertically up or down on the screen, but not left or right. So if car is turning, how to tell the cursor on screen? To solve this problem they used a magnetometer in the car and they made possible to move cursor left or right sideways on the screen. They calculate car coordinates with some simple trigonometry tricks. The mouse click is done by using of car’s horn.
