March Clean-up at Njombe airport

On Saturday 13th March, early in the morning, our team of five people were equipped and ready for the clean-up at Njombe airport. We started picking up scattered waste around the football pitch and the small paths along the airport. After one hour, we all met at a small illegal dumpsite where collecting the waste was a bit more challenging. Despite the amount of waste, we managed to clean that area.

After this, we conducted the WABA (Waste Audit and Brand Audit) to identify the most abundant types of waste and the brands behind that waste. We collected more than 50 kg of waste and PET water and soda bottles were the most abundant waste types.

We took the recyclables plastics (PP and HDPE) to our small-scale plastic recycling workshop and the rest of the waste was put back into the bags and left by the road, waiting for the waste collection truck to pick it up to take it to the official dumpsite. Yes...unfortunately Njombe does not count yet with a proper waste management system....
