PGA Championship Tees Off With Sunshine Clouds

Yes there will be showers tonight but they should all become long gone by daybreak Thursday. With the PGA Tournament beginning tomorrow morning it should be dry with leftover clouds and some breaks of sunshine developing by 7 or 8am In the meantime we do have the next in a series of upper air disturbances moving through Long Island tonight. After a day of sunshine and temperatures reaching the 60s, a few showers will be running around tonight. They show up on the satellite tonight like patchy cotton balls.

Regional radar shows some pop up showers to the west and north of the coast moving southeast. To the west across the Great Lakes we have a cold front and a band of showers that should move through Long Island between midnight and 4am.

Thursday we should break out into partly sunny skies with Long Island highs in the 60s to near 70 inland. Then the next front approaches on Friday with clouds and showers coming through from late morning to mid afternoon, possibly even a thunderstorm. Highs Friday will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The dilemma for the weekend continues. I don't see any real issues on Saturday which should be a partly sunny day with highs reaching the upper 60s and lower 70s except cooler along the shore later in the afternoon once the sea breeze hits. Sunday becomes an issue with the warm front to the south and possibly struggling to get through here. I was optimistic about Sunday but I'm beginning to wonder whether we may wind up sitting clouds, and onshore wind, and the chance for showers.

At least the precipitation would be showery in nature and might not show up until later in the day. There is still a chance this front could wind up being further north as was hinted at yesterday but this has been a spring where warm fronts have struggled greatly. Why should this one be different is beyond me. Much of the day will feature clouds for Long Island and temperatures in the 60s. The PGA golf tournament at Bethpage Black will not see days of continuous rain so dodging showers from time to time for a few hours is not such a bad thing.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
