Our noreaster is intensifying offshore and while it is out to the southeast it is not moving out to sea but will soon begin a counterclockwise loop westward. This will pin the low closer to the coastline later tonight into early Friday. Numerous advisories are posted for coastal flooding and wind, and the numerous high tide cycles involved with this storm could bring widespread moderate coastal flooding Thursday into Friday at high tide.
In addition to the tidal issues we have wind advisories up for Suffolk County for later tonight and Thursday. Winds will gust over 40 mph inland and could gust to 50 mph over the twin forks. Storm warnings are up for the coastal waters of Southeast Suffolk County with Gale Warnings for the coastal waters in Northeastern Suffolk County.
The storm is getting better defined on the satellite picture and loops this afternoon. We have see a soaking rain today especially over Suffolk County and the rain is backing in from the east. There will be a heavy surge of rain late tonight and on Thursday and total Long Island rainfall amounts from this storm could reach 2 to 3 inches especially as you head east.
The strongest winds will be late tonight into Thursday night. The 50 knot sustained winds almost touch the coastline on Thursday. Temperatures through all of this will be in the 50s. The storm will start moving southward Thursday night and Friday and we should see the wind and rain by this time slowly diminish.
We will still have cloudy skies with some patchy rain or showers on Friday with highs in the 50s. The storm finally moves away on Saturday but improvement will be slow with lots of clouds still around and a stray shower or some light rain or drizzle possible. Temperatures will reach into the 60s on Saturday. Some sunshine will return on Sunday.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
