The Horrors Spring South Wind Continues

This time of year is so frustrating. We will be hearing about places within a short drive of Long Island (in no traffic) with temperatures in the 60s and 70s over the next two days while we sit dealing with the dreaded ocean wind. With water to the east, south, and (to a lesser extent) north of Long Island getting warmth in the springtime off 40 degree water is impossible. We see this this evening as we sit in the low to mid 40s with a gusty south wind at 15 to 20 mph. At least that will keep temperatures up tonight as lows will settle between 40 and 40. We also have high clouds on the satellite loop streaming eastward and that will keep temperatures from falling as well. EASTERN SATELLITE

The showers we see on the radar to the northwest are moving right along and the southern end of the showers will weaken later this evening so there will be no issues there. Friday we will be struggling with cloud cover and a south wind. The sun may try to break out from time to time but clouds will rule as will the south wind again. That means highs will be in the 50s but along the shore and over the East End, 50 might be as high as it gets.

Saturday we have a shot at seeing 60s if the wind behaves (not very likely) and the sun can cut through the clouds (better chance). Temperatures will still be about 10 degrees warmer to the west inland where the ocean wind is not a factor. At least Saturday will be rain free and the better of the 2 weekend days.

Sunday morning brings a cold front and the chance for showers that might last into early afternoon on Long Island. Rainfall amounts are going to be under a quarter of an inch so we are not worried about an all day soaking rain. There is a chance if the front moves along that some improvement could occur during the mid to late afternoon. Timing is key. If the front is slower it might take most of the afternoon for showers to get out of the way.

Next week brings dry air for Monday into Tuesday with temperatures back into the 40s. Weather models are pointing to the possibiltiy to a low coming out of the Gulf States and heads northeast up the coast. This could mean a chilly rain and a raw ocean wind coming into play around mid week. You can read more on this on the latest JOESTRADAMUS long range post.
