CoinGecko’s Photo Contest | Hainanese Chicken rice

If there's one dish that has a special place in every locals' heart here in Singapore - it has to be the Hainanese Chicken rice. Some would even call it the national dish that could represent this country in an international cuisine event. It's so famous that every hawker food center will always have it on one of the food stalls.

That's a heavy introduction... let me present to you one of my favorite dish and so the majority of the locals (I believe).

The Hainanese Chicken rice

So what is the dish all about? It's a slow poached whole chicken, served together with a fragrant rice that is cooked using the stock & fat of the chicken.

The chicken meat itself is cooked perfectly on a specific timiing which kept its juiciness - even the lean part of the mean is so tender. The prime part of the chicken has a different price point though, of course the drumstick or the thigh will be more expensive than the lean part of the meat.

I must say that the rice in itself is flavoursome, I could even eat it alone. It's fragrant and it's also soaked with the chicken stock and flavoured with the chicken fat which makes it really tasty.

Now, this dish wouldn't be complete withuot the Chilli sauce. Some locals are very particular about the chilli sauce, they desire a sauce that "packs a punch". The chicken rice is a heavy dish and so it has to be paired with a sauce that has acidity and spice!

I like mine together with a chilli sauce, shredded ginger with sesame oil, & pickled green chilli. I like to mixed all together the chicken meat and the rice in a single mouthful. The mix of flavours is just crazy good!

So if you happen to visit Singapore, I can confidently say that for you to complete your journey you must have a Hainanese Chicken rice at least once. It will make our day for sure!
