Hunting and Conservation Response

This is my response to the Hunting and Conservation talk about the black rhino. Corey Knowlton has become the poster child for the conservation hunter. Corey is like most men that I grew up with, we were raised playing on the land and having a love for nature and the wildlife. While I do feel bad for Corey and his family, I do see why people would be upset, though threatening people or their family is never justified. He believes in the animals and cares for them but I noticed he justifies his hunting by saying “death is inevitable”.

While I do agree with that statement I don’t think it fits the “survival of the fittest mindset he's clearly pushing. His passion for what he believes impresses me but the biased and closed mindset he displays throughout the clip doesn't. Each state has an agency to manage wildlife, a hunter must buy a tag to shoot an animal, this gives an economic value the animal and creates local government revenue. While I don’t completely think hunting the black rhino is the true solution I do agree with Corey in terms of assigning value to something or else it will be gone. In our economically structured mind without the rhinos being valuable aside from emotions, there's nothing to stop them from being destroyed. The andre and istals Swanepoel's and their Aru Game Farm is a series of fenced in segments ranging over 200 sq miles in area. It was previously a cattle ranch but they turned it into a Game Farm.

They host many animals like giraffes, the black rhino, and the wildebeest. A Game Farm like the Swanepoel's is a much more sustainable idea and solution to species loss. I can tell Corey is passionate about animal conservation if the black rhinos and other animals are gone what will there be to hunt? I understand that if animal populations grow to much that can be negative for the species and many would die off to stabilize the population, and by shooting the older rhinos that cannot reproduce they may can save younger rhinos while bringing the inevitable. To me this yet another form of greenwashing and I cannot view it otherwise.
