Colleges Are Lying To You

From the time you get to high school till you graduate you’ve been told by your guidance counselors, teachers, parents and society that to succeed you have to go to college, there’s no other way they say. Make sure you take challenging classes and do extracurricular activities, not because you want to but to make your college applications look good. Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? No….well who cares you still need to go to college and just figure it out they say. Who cares that it will put you and your parents in debt that will take years to repay and you may never even get a degree, it’s what you should do. Does this sound right to you?

What about investing in creating your own business, going into the military, going to trade school or just getting a job and working your way up? Those our seen as none options, even though around 50 percent of those with a bachelor’s degree end up working in a job that doesn’t even require a degree. Well they say college is where you go to find yourself and learn about life. Wouldn’t spending a fraction of the money you pay on college and world traveling do the same? Then they’ll say well what about the jobs that require a college education like being a doctor, lawyer, nurse or teacher? Yes, those people do need to go to college, but college should not be for everyone.

If you are going to be an entrepreneur do you really need to get a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship being taught by people that have probably never even started a business? Of course not! How about to learn computer coding and have knowledge that is completely obsolete by the time you graduate? What I’m saying is that college is great for some, but it should not be the answer for everyone, especially if you are going to find yourself and have no idea what you want to do in life. The best way to find out about and experience life is to live it, not go away to college.

College is only worth it if you plan on getting a job with the government or a career that actually pays you well like engineering, computer science or medical. If those jobs don't appeal to you then you're probably better off working full-time, staying with your parents and saving half your paycheck so in 4 or 5 years you'll have a nice down payment for a house.
