Kalo in ancient Hawai`i is more a god than a plant. Kalo or taro was a dietary staple as well as the economic and spiritual center of the Hawaiian peoples agricultural society.
In Hawaiian lore Kalo is a brother or sister in the Family Tree of the first born, the origins of the Hawaiian race.
