A few years back I did some summer work with the Forest Service as a Wildlife Surveyor. It was the year after one of the worst wildfires ever in northern California. Much of my work required hiking around in the heavily burned areas all day, which could be pretty depressing--everything looked barren, like a moonscape. But there was still life in some places. Plants were beginning to sprout and grow back. This was especially true of the wildflowers. They seemed to enjoy the newly cleared landscape, as you can see bellow with the Lupines, in front of the dead burnt trees.
