Color Challenge Monday Red: The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse

in colorchallenge •  7 years ago

This was taken back in December during our 24 hour stay in Chicago!!! We walked all around the downtown area and out to the very end of Navy Pier!! This is as close as I could get with my 70-200mm!! I'm sure I could crop it some but I like it how it is!!

The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is an automated active lighthouse, and stands at the south end of the northern breakwater protecting the Chicago Harbor, to the east of Navy Pier and the mouth of the Chicago River.
The light was constructed in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition and moved to its present site in 1919.
Surrounded by rip rap, the structure has several levels: a concrete base and two red roofed buildings with a tapered white cylinder between them which is topped by a parapet and the light itself.

Nice capture, I visited Chicago once in 2007 to see the Eric Clapton Crossroads Festival. Cool place for sure, and the pizza is right up there with the best of New York and New Jersey!
