In the fall of 2011 I remember watching a Discovery Channel program about the cobstruction of the Canton Tower. I thought it was such a unique structure, and hoped to see it in person one day.
The Canton Tower was, for a brief period, the tallest tower in the world (a title it would lose to the Tokyo Skytree). The design is meant to resemble a woman glancing over her shoulder, and the Tower cycles through various color schemes made possible by a shit ton of LED lights.
This past February I finally made it to Guangzhou to see the Canton Tower in person. I spent a great deal of time walking along the Pearl River, admiring it from different angles. In person, the twisting structure almost looks like an optical illusion. I don't think any of the pictures I took give the same effect as seeing this masterpiece of engineering in person.
