Red palm trees add an accent border to the red hue of the In-N-Out store seen at dusk. In-N-Out, for those who don't know, is a chain of fast food hamburger restaurants that was founded in Baldwin Park, California in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder. From its birthplace in Southern California, the chain has expanded into the western U.S., Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas and Oregon.

One sign of how popular In-N-Out is in California is that when I was living in Colorado a poll was done about what bothered people most about Colorado. The top answer was “too many people moving in from California,” and the second answer was “No In-N-Out” (from all the California transplants).

Back in the 1970's the chain was called In-N-Out Burger, and it was a pretty common site to see the corners cut off an In-N-Out Burger bumpersticker (removing the B and the final r) so it read In-N-Out urge, a sexual reference. Now the restaurant is just called In-N-Out. Wonder if the bumperstickers had anything to do with the name change?

Those red palm trees are on the drink cups at In-N-Out, and there is an interesting story about palm trees and In-N-Out. Check back on Wednesday for In-N-Out Day #2 to read the story. Hint: it has something to do with one of my favorite movies.

Thanks to @kalemandra for starting this #colorchallenge ! I love trying to come up with something different to post for each day of the week, although usually it's a flower or a car...
