I love orchids so much I had them as my wedding bouquet. In hindsight the petals are very delicate and maybe not the best for a bouquet however they did look beautiful as they hung in a teardrop shape.

I've always kept Orchids since then and I'd say they go through periods of blooming and then being dormant. I would water mine every 7-10 days. After a few month it may look like the roots are trying to escape from the pot when you see that happening it's time to replant in a bigger pot. Then you'll see your plant thrive, using moss or bark rather than soil as I believe the plant absorbs light and water through their roots. Not sure if that is exactly true but I'm sure I read that on a care label once. @melinda010100

That's a great comment @nataliemk and answers the question of how to care for orchids to keep them alive for a long time.
The white orchid bouquet is very popular with brides for many reasons.
I wrote about orchids many years ago. The link is above. ;)

Hehehe. I'm jealous that you live in the tropics. Is it expensive to live there? I wanted to live there last year, but the trip to Iceland put that off.

Bud has spunk yet seems a little contrary. Shooting your bud of whenever you feel like it is hardly proper, is it?

Kudos to the wife for keeping you all under control. :) tip!

Haha Iceland sounds like fun. It's a little climate confused ;) Thanks for the tip ;)

:)

My daughter just brought me on orchid that was going to be thrown out because it had quit blooming. I don't know much about growing them. Does your wife have any tips she would share?...if the poor thing survives the severe over watering it has been recieving.

All I know is that you don't water them much at all. I will ask her what she does to make them thrive.

@Melinda: Simply ignore it for a while and let it readjust. They seem to thrive at my house and I do next to nothing for them, well except ignore them. :)

The same woman just sent me a beautiful blooming orchid because someone gave it to her as a gift and it doesn't match her color scheme! Glad I don't have such strict decorating rules, cuz it's beautiful!

It doesn't match her color scheme?? How silly. Everything matches beautiful!

Colour scheme lol my word. How strict. Your gain @melinda010100

Your doing great I buy orchids for my girlfriend all the time but they die after a few months. Not sure if its because the temperature from the AC or the lack of fresh sunlight either way they last longer then roses and she likes them. Nice shot.

Check out @nataliemk comment above on how to keep orchids alive longer and show your girlfriend this post above. All about Orchids

They can last for years if cared for properly.
They are beautiful and no thorns. :)

That doesn't look like a real plant.

The flash gives it an unreal look. I agree. So here it is sans flash two day later @craiglong

Thanks for your work as well! Followed. Please follow me

I know its sunny day.
