During my short hiatus from Steemit, I was moving my belongings to L.A., getting situated and also planning to embark on quite a semi-spontaneous trip to Europe (you will hear about in future posts).
On the drive to Southern California, I took Highway 46, which I have driven probably 100 times. A stretch of this road is designated the James Dean Memorial Highway. I have never stopped to take a look before...here's what I saw.
Part of a cool mural I will tell you about in a minute.
Jack Ranch Cafe is a diner filled with James Dean memorabilia plus a little gift shop. I felt like I was somewhere in Texas. :D
Across the parking lot from the cafe is the memorial marker for James Dean.
The actual site of the deadly crash on September 30, 1955 is at the junction of California State Route 46 (former 466) and California State Route 41.
Further down the road at the 46 and 33 junction, Blackwell's corner, you can find a couple of cool murals painted by John Cerney.
John Cerney's home base is in Salinas, my now former home. His murals can be seen on the hillsides and agricultural fields throughout Monterey County and beyond. I do believe he was featured in National Geographic many years ago.
Here is a different style of mural by Cerney. I like the full body version looks like it is standing on this one's shoulder (kinda).

I prefer the full body version of James Dean too ~ With surroundings so stark, the atmosphere of the tragedy hits home even more so. Resteemed. 🦋

The site of the accident is actually quite picturesque...rolling hills dotted with oak trees. Where the murals are is closer to a flat section of the valley that is rather stark, indeed.
