ColorChallenge - Wednesday Yellow Edible Muellein

in colorchallenge •  8 years ago  (edited)

Tall and straight grows the Muellein in the wild offering nectar to a variety of eager insects. The plants fuzzy, velvet-like leaves and yellow flowers are both edible. Many people use them to steep tea for an afternoon delight.

Muellein Tea

1-2 tsps of dried mullein leaves and/or flowers

1 cup boiling water

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the dried mullein flowers and leaves. Steep for 10 - 15 minutes. Pour the liquid through a cheesecloth or a coffee filter to strain out the plant's tiny hairs as they may irritate the throat.

Mullein leaf tea has a soothing effect on the urinary tract and facilitates urination. It also eases a nervous, irritable bladder and incontinence. Prepare mullein tea as directed above (minus the mullein flowers) and drink 3 - 4 cups daily. (Be sure to ask your health practitioner first if this is suitable for your condition.)

Beautiful yellow flowers with interesting information!

Thank you tangmo I am glad you liked it.

You're welcome! ;)

Beautiful photo, and useful recipe, @sunscape! Thank you!

Thank you sonyanka I have never tried the flowers but this summer am going to give it a try. I may even dry some for making soap too!

Great idea! One of my friends use calendula flowers to make a soap. I like it:)

I just planted my calendula seedlings for this years harvest to make soap. I make many different varieties from the plants, flowers and herbs from my gardens, all organic.

That is some kind of magic for me :)

I am also a fan of tea and have to taste this one!
Beautiful nature!

Beautiful softness and clarity contrast in the focal flower and such a lovely background, softer again.

Thank you, it is so soft to the touch too!

Just remember that the seeds are poisonous

Good to know, I don't plan on eating any of them for sure.
