If you enjoy cooking, I highly recommend getting a set of these Cuisinart knives. The green is my favorite for cooking followed by this ORANGE knife, as pictured above.
I absolutely adore the green Santoku knife that came with the set which is why it is my favorite. I find it works much better for my needs than a chef's knife. I switched to a Santoku years ago and never looked back.
These Cuisinarts are the best I've had so far. This whole set was reasonably priced and well worth it.
 
The little orange one comes in handy too for most of my and @liberty-minded's fresh grown organic veggies from the garden. (We didn't actually eat the teeny tiny ORANGE carrot from the first photo that came out while I was weeding).
Besides being useful, the knives are colorful and brighten the day when you're preparing food.
I use them ALL the time. Recently I made some amazing grilled cheese

and of course used one of these knives again (and again and again!) to slice them up diagonally with love.
