Columns for Steem Update - Infinite scrolling, bugfixes, improved error handling

If you haven’t seen it yet, Columns for Steem is a multi-column client for Steem/Steemit I’m developing right now, you can check it out here or read the announcement post here where I explain it in detail.

In this update, I’ve fixed a bug in Google Chrome where the scrollbar inside of columns would go beyond the visible range when you scroll to the very bottom.

I’ve also made the app more reliable when it comes to slow internet connections or when the internet connection is constantly dropping in and out, like if you’re on the go with WIFI. Should be rock solid now, unless I made a mistake of course which is possible since this is easily the most complex part of the whole application since I have to think of and handle all the rare edge cases users could run into.

In some cases images of posts weren’t displayed before, I improved the image detection so it should work in most (or hopefully all) cases now, but this is a tricky thing to get right, so if you notice something amiss, please report it in the comments so I can fix the problem.

As for new features, this update adds infinite scrolling to columns. So now when you scroll to the bottom of a column, a loading indicator is shown and more posts get loaded until there are no more left.

I’ve also did a bit of testing to see how much bandwidth is used by the app, it tries to use as little as possible. With 5 columns opened the app uses about 30 MB of bandwidth per hour, 12 MB of that is text (data returned by the Steem API) and the rest images. It varies of course depending on the amount of columns, how big the pictures are and also the sort order of the columns which I’ve explained in the last post.

While the app is still very new and under heavy development these updates and update announcement posts will probably come every other day for some time, then once or twice a week, and finally when the app is stable and has most of the features I want it to have, every month or two.

If you notice any bugs or have any other feedback, please tell me in the comments. Have fun with the app!
