The Apostle Paul on his second missionary journey founded the Church of Corinth, where he preached for more than a year, and it was in this prosperous and important city of Greece where Paul most felt the influence of paganism and the divisions caused by other Christian teachers who taught the gospel. Paul wrote two letters to this church where he deeply expounded his doctrine.
And in his second letter Paul recalled a teaching of Jesus about the problems of life: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" Matthew 11:28-30.
In a world given over to sin and the love of money, the peace and comfort of Jesus were essential for the first Christians, as told by the apostle Paul in his epistles. Because as the wisdom of the Bible teaches, sinners reject those who fear God with their hearts: "My child, when you come to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials" Ben Sira 2:1.
For christians it is important to understand an issue, if we reject the path of Jesus, only pessimism, hopelessness and sadness remain, because this spiritual path, that Jesus proposed to us, is the only path to true happiness and the eternal life.
Thus Paul spoke about the importance of consolation to persevere in faith and overcome the problems that life imposes with its difficulties:
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ" 2 Corinthians 1:3-5.
