Stuffed Animals & Security Blankets

Who doesn’t love a big round fluffy doggy? Stuffed animals can be cute, and this one is no exception. The perfect size and shape to hug and squeeze, relieving tension and providing comfort.

But what if a stuffed animal becomes more than a fancy pillow and more of a security blanket? Let’s face it, we all have insecurities and have some kind of emotional crutch to help deal with everyday life. It may not always be a literal blanket or stuffed animal, it can almost anything. Smoking and drinking are some obvious popular options, but there are always new and strange options that people pick up.

I remember I saw a show where this young man was living with a bunch of inflatable pool toys and treated them as his friends and children. While it was really bizarre, it seemed that that was what he found helped him cope with his high stress life, which I think is fine as long as he’s not hurting or impeding anyone else’s life.

For me, I would say a crutch of mine would be watching tv shows that I’ve seen many times before. The familiarity of it is nice because I don’t have to wonder what’s coming next and I can just relax in the predictability of it.
