Two months ago, I wrote a piece about a gentleman popping into our shop to get a comic graded. That comic is a unicorn and worth a small fortune. The cool aspect regarding this (for him) is that he bought this comic from us for $30 bucks several years prior. For those of you too lazy to read the previous article, here are the cliff notes...
The book in question is the Uncanny X-Men #510 Campbell Partial Sketch Variant. It was given out at the San Diego Comic Con I believe in 2009ish, and we had a handful that we sold in the shop between $30-$50 bucks. Years later it was realized by hardcore collectors just how rare it actually was. Now, it fetches mucho $$$! End
Well the gentleman who sent it away through us to get graded will be happy to know that his book just arrived back safe and sound from CGC with a grade of 9.0!!!
In early January, a graded 8.5 copy sold for $3350!!! I’d guess that his 9.0 here could bring in anywhere from $3500-$4500 bucks, but when you have a book that is a ghost you can pretty much set the market yourself.
Currently the only other copy up for sale publicly is a graded 9.6 copy that the seller is asking $11,500. That’s up from 2 months ago when the seller had it listed for $10,350. He just keeps raising it. Nobody is biting at that price though...
Either way, my guy spent $30 from us around 10 years ago on the book and $71 to get it graded for a tasty total of $101 bucks. Not too bad of an investment if he sells it for roughly $4000!!!! Congrats on the book Sean!!!

Lol. There is a store who has a shop Exclusive variant coming out for Detective Comics #1000 next month. They created quite the controversy as they said they are only keeping a small portion of the Edition size and are destroying the rest to make it more collectible.
I crazy story. A couple years back I qualified for a 1 in 1000 variant for a Spider-Man book. What that means is marvel offers a special incentive. For every 1000 copies of the regular you order, you may order 1 of this special variant. Blah blah blah. I did it as I’m dumb and wanted one except the variant arrived hammered. Distributor made me destroy it before they would send me another so I took video of me popping it in the shredder. Heartbreaking watching a $1000 dollar plus book being shredded. I had to destroy 3 copies Becker I got a decent one. I’ll pop up a piece about that as it’s pretty interesting. I might still have the video in the sent emails.

It depends on the book. If it’s anything after 1975 and is not something like this that’s worth thousands...it’ll roughly cost $35 bucks. Prior to 1975 and not worth thousands would be around $55. This specific book cost the gentleman $71 bucks.
