The issue starts with Dazzler comes to visit the Fantastic Four. While she's there the Human Torch and the Thing are playing and she is using her powers. Later Reed tells her that he has constructed a weapon for her. It emanates a powerful sound that she can use and can turn her into a big player in the superhero game. However, Dazzler doesn't want to be a heroine, all she wants to be is be a singer. However, she remembers her recent adventures and decides to take the weapon.
Meanwhile, Warren Kenneth Worthington III, also known as Angle, visits Dazzler's grandmother and informs her that he intends to find Dazzler's missing mother, Kathrine, or at least find out what happened to her. We also see that Dazzler's father, a court judge is not doing so well and is still thinking about his missing wife.
On the villain side of things we see that the Absorbing Man is in town. He was defeated by the Avengers in Avengers Vol 1 #184. He turned into water to get away from them and his recovery has been hard. He also fought against the Hulk and lost. But now he is back and he wants revenge, against the Avengers. Obviously. He can turn into any material that he touches so that will be very useful.
Dazzler, well, Alison, goes on a date with Ken. He notices that something is going on between her and Angel and she says she's not into Angel. But come on, he took her on a flying tour in New York City.
On the villain side of events the Absorbing Man attacks Dazzler's manager and his assistant. The assistant breaks down after failing to attack the Absorbing Man and tells him where to find Dazzler. He tells him where and when she will be performing.
We switch to that performance that goes well, really well, until Dazzler decides to try Reed's new device. The result isn't what she hoped for and the light is too much, people run away screaming as the light hurts their eyes. She decides to continue the show without her light show. Which no one knows is caused by her powers.
But the Absorbing Man has a plan for her. While he is watching her and he realizes that he can do better than use her as a hostage. So he breaks into the performance. She tries to get to her new weapons, but he takes it from her and kidnaps her. He wants to trade her life for the Avengers lives. How original. And he wants to use her weapon to take them out. She shows him how to turn on the cassette device knowing it will hurt his ears because of the sound it emanates. In his anger from the pain he attacks Dazzler. But she uses the sounds to turn on her power of light that blind him. However, he absorbs the light and the power that comes with it. Her plan backfired on her. The issue ends with a cliffhanger.
I was never a X-Men fan or a Dazzler fan, but this is reasonably interesting.
