As usual we have, "How do we solve a problem? I know, we'll tax it!"
While I do understand the problem and the need to reduce waste, a 25 pence addition to the price of a coffee will make it more of a luxury product for those on low incomes. It may not seem a lot for someone on a normal wage, but a having a few coffees during a week will soon add up.
Pushing poorer people away from a very civilized activity will not help society and the government should be aiming for fewer regulationas and taxes, not more.
Britain should charge a 25-pence ($0.34) “latte levy” on disposable coffee cups to cut down waste and ban them if a recycling target is not met by 2023, a committee of lawmakers said on Friday.
