The importance of daily communication with employees

Maintaining a healthy communication level with employees on a daily basis is an essential task that can prevent the emergence of any unexpected problems.

This is particularly true in the long run, in cases where problems may accumulate, although there is not any apparent cause to be identified.

For example, when problems seem to have sprung out of the blue, it is usually found in the end, that these problems soared because of poor communication or no communication at all.

It is like when a disease hits a person, and that person treats it as a sort of an “accident” that took place in the blink of an eye, although the disease may have been slowly and silently spreading throughout the body for years.

Therefore, communication within a company is an ongoing and omnipresent process that can have a greater impact than what is perceived from a first impression, as its effectiveness is intangible.

Although the results of communication can be measured in various ways and methods, a company cannot be sure that these results can be attributed to communication alone or other factors within the company as well.

However, communication works like a lubricant in business management, as it facilitates the smooth implementation of the company’s strategies and goals by its employees.

Literally speaking, either in a written, spoken, or digital form, there is no other way for a manager to get the message across his subordinates, other than regular and effective communication.

On the other hand, there is also a risk that lurks when managers attempt to apply a daily communication routine with their employees, especially when this routine tends to heavily rely on holding staff meetings.

Running regular staff meetings is a great way for staff to be updated on current issues and development with regard to the company’s operation, and also express their opinions on the procedures as well as raise any objections and/or complaints.

Staff meetings are also a very effective instrument for managers in their effort to raise awareness on corporate issues among staff.

Nevertheless, staff meetings can severely hinder productivity, when they are poorly organized and there is not any true reason for holding them, other than filling some hours in the timesheet.

As a result, although the importance of daily communication with employees is unquestionable, great care should be given not to turn it into yet another problem for the company, rather than a solution to the existing one.
