off grid communications

One of the questions that I like to ask is that is the electricity was turned off tomorrow, then how could the average person receive information. I think that many people own either a battery operated radio, or they own a radio that is not dependent on the electricity grid.

So I think that a decent form of getting important information into the hands of the everyday person is a 'part 15 radio transmitter'

With a part 15 transmitter, a concerned citizen (that is you) can basicly run a podcast show from a room in your house and then broadcast the pod cast on your own part 15 radio station.

The area that 1he part 15 station is able to broadcast to depends on how high the antenna is placed. For example if the antenna is mounted on top of a flag pole that is 10 foot high then the broadcast range might only be half a mile. But if the antenna is mounted on top of a flag pole that is 20 foot tall then the broadcast range might be 1 mile.

So one of the challenges becomes where to find a tall flag pole that is for sale, so I found a website that arranged flag poles by height and had thoes flag poles for sale.

An off grid communication project that I am less certain how to set up (so I welcome comments/tips) is a computer communications network that is able to operate even when the internet is turned off. I think that it would be just like setting up a C.A.N. (which stands for campus area network). Every computer should be able to function like it normally does when it is off line (or unpluged from the internet).

A person is able to get 'networking software' https://www.techwalla.com/articles/what-is-networking-software

(downloadable programs) https://download.cnet.com/s/networking/windows/

So a small town/region can stay connected even without the internet
