Did you know that Holy Language Institute is run by volunteers? This week we're celebrating Zach!
"How long have you been with HLI?"
I’ve been with H.L.I. for 4 years.
"Tell us about your volunteer work."
I work with the twitter account by answering messages and replying to posts. My goal is to faithfully represent H.L.I. on the field of social media.
"Why did you volunteer? Was it what you expected?"
I volunteered because when I began to try living a Torah obedient lifestyle, I was living in Okinawa without an immediate Messianic family or congregation. HaShem provided me Holy Language Institute to prove me with the Messianic fellowship that I needed.
"What have you learned and how have you grown from the experience?"
The things I have learned from Holy Language that impacted me the most deal with the Hebrew letters. Holy Language taught me many things about their symbolic nature, written forms, structure, numerical values, and their sounds. I thank HaShem for providing me Holy Language Institute. Because of this, I am able to daven many of the Traditional prayers in my Sidur entirely in Hebrew! In terms of growth, I definitely do not have the same practices and beliefs as I did when i first joined. In the past, I used to be less interested and even sometimes resistant to Jewish Halakhah and customs, even though deep down, I had a love and desire for everything Jewish, especially it relates to Rebbe Yeshua . I had more of a “solo Scriptira” mindset in the past. However, as I continued to learn and grow, I now desire a more Orthodox Jewish practice centered around Yeshua. I appreciate Holy Language’s support for normative and traditional Judaism. I really believe the Messianic world is in need of organizations such as H.L.I.
We call our volunteers "stewards". What does it mean to you to be a steward?
Well when I hear the word “steward”, I immediately think of flight attendants. However, as a Steward of Holy Language, I desire to do my best to attend the spiritual needs of anyone who visits our twitter page and the needs of any other steward in H.L.I.
"Would you recommend volunteering? Why?"
Yes, of course! Holy Language Institute provides and great opportunity to learn and do Kingdom work as we work towards “Tiqun Olam”, that is “rectification of the world.” I highly recommend it for those who do not have a local Messianic congregation or who do not have immediate Messianic friends and family members. Holy Language Institute provides much love, support, and fellowship with its volunteers!
Zach, thank you so much for your work serving our tribe. We love and appreciate you!
