Over the past few weeks I've been rebuilding my affiliate marketing training platform. Since 2011 I've been training affiliate marketers on everything from traffic generation to lead generation...But it's time for a refresh!
Some of the information I was sharing hasn't been updated since 2011 so this is a much needed change...
I'm even going to be introducing STEEM into this platform and giving my members a brief introduction to the blockchain and how they can leverage it for anything they want to build online...
While poking around these lessons I have been re-doing, I found my old 'Push Vs. Pull' marketing lesson. In it, I argue that instead of pushing our brands, advertisements and sales pitches to our customers and leads...We should be PULLING them into us and start the path towards proper engagement.
Sounds familiar huh?
So of course I began to ask myself...
How do we bring this method of 'marketing' and put it into the DNA of what we are doing on STEEM?
What I discovered was that...We spend the bulk of our time here engaging already! And I think that's a fantastic foundation for what STEEM will become. Let me explain...
When STEEM first launched, it was branded as a place to blog and get paid for writing content. It was pretty attractive to the O.G.s here on STEEM to write a blog post and then...Presto...You earned $1000's in rewards.
So our first 'marketing message' here was...PUSHING the benefits and potential rewards. The pioneers of STEEM pushed the message of a better social media network. A place where you got rewarded. And no one could bring down your content.
Ahhhh the good ol' days :)
Wish I was here for them, cause I woulda stocked up on sooooo much Steem Power lol
But now...STEEM is much more than a place to blog and get rewarded for your thoughts. As @JustineH put it in her recent video.... "Steem is the way the internet SHOULD be!"
This is massive. And it all sounds great on paper but....
But how do we pull people here?
It's done through....
Engagement - via the amazing applications found here on Steem. From games, to mobile apps and everything in between. We've got some of the best tech online!
Discussions - Through some fo the best blogging apps and social media apps out there. Sure, it's not the main focus of STEEM, but it's part of it's history!
Communities - Just in case you weren't aware yet...You can find your HOME here on STEEM! The communities on Steem are passionate and supportive to everyone that jumps onboard!
When I taught the Push Vs. Pull strategy, I told people that when they were setting up an email autoresponder series, the first email they should write to their lists was not only a welcome greeting...But an attempt to PULL people to their social media platforms, their blogs, their forums...Pull them to where the communication and relationships could flourish.
Folks...That's what STEEM excels at: Engagement! Discussions and Communities!
Pushing the message that we have a better option than Facebook and Twitter, won't work in my opinion. To be brutally honest, the everyday social media consumer doesn't care that things are centralized or decentralized...YET.
But we do care about other people....
We care about belonging to and building amazing communities...And that's what will PULL people to Steem!
Maybe I'm just living in this crazy utopian dream, but to me...When we spend more time pulling these people towards us, instead of pushing our promises of big rewards and sales pitches...Steem will win.
But yeah, I might be losing it....
Would love to DISCUSS this and see what you think :)

Hello,
that's one of the reasons I started with my website and blog:
https://steempartiko.wordpress.com/
To attract some of the WordPress bloggers to Steemit, we have to go new ways, Steem need more users.
And you're right, most people don't care about blockchain or decentralization, they want it easy.
Now we have beautiful and easy to use dapps like #Partiko, #Appics, or #Dtube now is the time for marketing and to attract the "normal" user.
Have a wonderful day
Tom
BTW, I will repost your post on steempartiko if that's ok for you

so thankful for that for sure. these apps are what will attract the masses. it won’t be hammering them with the promises of instant riches.
thanks so much for the comment.

The Proof of Brain concept continues to expand and provide alternatives for these concepts as Dapps can eventually create their own rewards distribution thought process which can be interesting!

I have not heard you use that line in a long time. It’s still a very strong message today as it was years ago. Its like a baby uses push and pull method on you till it is ready to come.

Nice summary of this strategy, thanks for that. It's not as easy as it always sounds, though, and users have to actually gain something along the way. So yeah, belonging is something worthwhile - I've long believed that for most people, the monetary value of the rewards can't make that much of a difference (after all, what good does it do to you if I upvote you for 0.002$) but the feeling that somebody appreciates your content to grant you that reward is what matters. Even if people aren't paying that from their own pockets, their stake still gets diluted through inflation and so they're actually giving away something.
The community here has mostly been showing a very nice and generous attitude (with the few obvious greedy exceptions), and this is what really matters.

I was not familiar with Push & Pull strategies until now, so thanks for that... But I am aware of other things that you have pointed out: "Engagement! Discussions and Communities!"
First thing that I have noticed when I come to Steemit platform is the lack of PM inbox and chat options... But, on the other side, that would probably provoke a lot of SPAM advertising... Discord helped a lot with that...
As @rishi556 said in the comments, maybe it is the time for some new killer dApp outside Steemit Inc. just to show the power of people and community here on STEEM.
Maybe it is already happening? I like it more slowly and steady...

I guess you are right. Most especially you are right, we don't really care about others. Perhaps only for ourselves for now I don't know whether It will change in the future

I have been reading/watching some of these Steem Vision posts. So much of positivity. While I like the Pull vs Push strategy. I would like to see more of a balanced approach to showing what is real. Not only positive sides of Steem, but also the flaws. Marketing purely based on positive aspects I think can be deceitful, over-promising, or misleading.
P.S. I am still under the influence of this post from couple days ago.

agreed. i think that’s what caught steem and steemit in a bind when the pumps came in 2017.
people looked here because there was this false sense of instant success.
there are loads of things that need to be ironed out on steem for sure. completely agree.

I think we need a really good app made by someone other than STEEMIT INC. to show the true power of the Steem blockchain, and then pull people onto that app, and have them move from that to others. If you are on facebook, messenger and instagram integration pulls you into those and like that, if we can get dTube or VIMM to become a real player in the industry, getting people on other Steem based apps will be easy as partnerships can easily form.

simplicity of use.
that’s why things like partiko and appics have so much potential. their teams understand that people just wanna use this stuff.
i agree and i think there will be the killer dapp that takes this stuff to another level.
