Hi everyone,
Lately there has been a lot of talk of "dust votes"; the fact that if your upvote to a comment is less than 0.03$ , is simply disappears like dust in the air. You can read all the details in this well-researched post by @thedarkhorse.
The good news is that @davemccoy and @danielsaori have created something amazing to fix this problem!! It's called @dustsweeper :)
you will have your dust taken care of automatically. It's a friendly, simple to use bot that looks out for the newbies and minnows, and makes sure that you get paid from the votes that have been cast for you, no matter how small.
You can read more details in their post, but in a nutshell, you just have to send 1 sbd or steem or more to @dustsweeper and they will take care of the rest!
There is no membership fee whatsoever, but there is a charge of $0.014 SBD for every dust vote we cast. That is half of the value of the upvote of $0.028. The way we keep track of it is that you send about 1 SBD/STEEM or more, we double the amount and keep the balance on hand.
What a great way to help those of us who struggle to have our upvotes really mean something!!

I think one of the things about the dust vote that seems to be missing, is that when a person gives a vote, it is an act of curation. If that vote gets dusted, then not only the receiver of that vote misses his/hers reward, but the giver misses out on a chance of a curation reward. So while @dustsweeper may primarily be about the reward going through to the receiver, the caster also gets a reward out of it now also, at least I think that is how it will work, but not 100% sure.

I think you might be missing the point a bit; this is a good bot. It's to help we minnows have our upvotes mean something. Right now, every upvote that isn't worth 0.03 disappears! into nothingness! This bot helps us make our comments be valued...literally. You still have to manually comment and upvote, but it just gives you a boost. It's unlike any other bot out there!
Like right now, my voting power is low because I do comment and upvote a lot. If I give you an upvote worth 0.01, @dustsweeper will come here before post payout, raise my upvote to you to a near 0.03, and you will get the reward you deserve for commenting here.

Actually, given the reward pool is what it is, it would get distributed among those who are getting payouts I would think. At least this is the argument i hear in reverse about why self voting whales are bad. Seems if this is true it would apply here as well. So more of the rich getting richer, the poor staying poor.

@practicalthought, I don't know the answer to that as I know it is automatic if it comes from your wallet... So to be safe (and until we can ask @danielsaori who programmed it), I would suggest that you send the amount to the person you want to receive it and have them send it from their wallet.... Daniel may have some way to do it for another account from the memo, but I don't know how hard it is to switch it if is automatic. Its probably something easy he can do, but I wouldn't want to give you a bad answer.
And to answer your point above, I don't know. But I think your premise would be correct... The pool is the pool... So if they cut out the pennies, then that means more left for the others.

I can appreciate the opinion about bots, but the whole point of this is to help the "humans" that are too small to get paid too. While you might be large enough to not care about the $0.01 or $0.02, there are many humans that spend a lot of time writing posts and interacting that get nothing from the upvotes if their friends are too small. This is a way to help the little human.... This isn't about paying another bot, as the bot is a community bot that is not out to make a profit or recycle funds to a whale. And for the record, I have delegated 200 of my 320 SP to this project and will receive nothing in return. No payments whatsoever.
I can understand your cynicism, but in this case I think if you dig a little deeper into the issue that you will find this is a program designed to help those humans that you seem to want to have stay on this platform and interact with. Which I also want to happen too.

I have hundreds of posts and comments that don't make me a cent from their rewards and I'm not large at all, but I still continue to be active on this platform because I like it more than any other.

its ok to be a cynic... I don't mind... And the fact is that just because you don't care about that 0.01, that doesn't mean its not important to others. Just like getting paid on a $100 vote is important to someone that earns it, this is a way to help the little guy that also earned money (even though it was only $0.01 or $0.02)....
And just like you, I am still here and I haven't been paid on my $0.01 comments or posts... but if you look at the numbers of people that come and go, we are the exception not the norm.
